Explosively brilliant... genuinely unputdownable. McKinty's brilliance lies in exploring just how far a parent will go to rescue their child.
McKinty has now gambled on mimicking Lee Child by moving to America and penning thrillers set there, taking on Harlan Coben and David Baldacci. On the evidence of this high-concept debut as a born-again American author, they should be worried... it is brilliantly plotted, and just as well written as his Duffy books.
The plot is clever, the present-tense narrative is straightforwardly effective and there are plenty of references to Moby Dick, existentialism and the Ouroboros.
