Awards Announcements

Gollancz are delighted to share the news of a few award nominations and wins that have come in recently.

First of all, Jack Glass by the incomparable Adam Roberts was announced as the winner of the John W. Campbell memorial award, one of the four major US awards for SF. This follows up the BSFA award that Jack Glass won earlier this year, and makes it the third year in a row that a Gollancz book has won both the BSFA and John W. Campbell awards (with The Dervish House and The Islanders). Many congratulations to Adam.

We’re also delighted to see that the British Fantasy Award shortlist has a number of Gollancz authors among a very strong selection of shortlists. Red Country by Joe Abercrombie and Some Kind of Fairy Tale are both up for the Robert Holdstock award for Best Fantasy Novel, and Some Kind of Fairy Tale is also up for the August Derleth award for Best Horror Novel. Sam Sykes has an entry on the Best Short Story list, and Saladin Ahmed is nominated for the Sydney J. Bounds award for Best Newcomer for his brilliant debut fantasy Throne of the Crescent Moon.

Saladin’s book has also been nominated for the Hugo and Nebula awards, which is thrilling news (only one other book made both shortlists this year). Redshirts by John Scalzi is also up for the Hugo for best novel, and The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson is up for best novella.

Congratulations to all of our authors, and all of the other nominees!
