For over fifty years, Graham Kendrick’s music has given voice to millions of worshippers across denominations and generations around the world. But behind the songs lies a remarkable story.
In this candid and engaging memoir in which each chapter connects with a song, Graham traces the journey that shaped both his life and his music: from his childhood in the Baptist chapels pastored by his father to the coffee bar beat groups of the 1960s; from the Jesus Movement in California to the birth of Contemporary Christian Music and the global impact of March for Jesus. Along the way, Graham found himself caught up in some of the most significant movements in modern Christian history.
Here are the stories that gave birth to the songs, and the experiences, friendships and moments that inspired them. Among them is the song that travelled further than any other: ‘Shine Jesus Shine’. What began as a simple expression of faith slipped its moorings and circled the globe, becoming an anthem sung in churches, stadiums, marches, and movements across continents.
Warm and reflective, this is the story of a shy and unassuming songwriter whose calling led him far beyond anything he could have imagined. As Graham looks back on a life shaped by music and ministry, and ahead to fresh challenges and new songs still to be written, he invites readers to discover the faith, friendships and experiences behind the music that inspired it all.
