Freelance German-speaking Editorial Co-ordinator, Translators, Copy Editors and Proof Readers, Bookouture
Bookouture is the UK’s fastest growing digital publisher of commercial fiction and non-fiction, and part of Hachette UK. We are only eight years old, but we have grown rapidly every year and have now sold over 44 million books to readers worldwide, with 2020 our best year yet. To keep up this incredible rate of growth, we’re trialling some exciting new projects, including the translation and publishing of some of our fiction in German, and we need only the best talent.
We are currently looking for fluent German speakers, with publishing experience, for the following roles:
1. A freelance editorial co-ordinator to work freelance on a project co-ordinating the translation of a selection of Bookouture fiction between translators, copy-editors and proof-readers.
You will also need to translate retailer descriptions, key words, metadata and marketing material. An understanding of the German fiction market will be particularly helpful in the latter.
You will be able to provide an excellent track-record of managing the coordination of delivered text through the copyediting and proof-reading processes, together with proof of your fluency in German. Experience of your use of German in a publishing landscape would be a big advantage.
Initially we’re looking for someone to work for 5-10 hours per week, but if the project is a success this is likely to increase. There is no requirement to work in the Hachette offices, or even in the UK. You will be able to start immediately.
2. Freelance translators to translate a selection of commercial fiction in the crime, historical and women’s fiction genres. You will have a proven track record of well-reviewed translation of commercial fiction from English to German, and be able to take on projects immediately and complete them in a timely manner.
3. Freelance copy editors and proof readers to work on the German translations of our commercial fiction in the crime, historical and women’s fiction genres. You will have a proven track record of being able to produce this work in the German language, and of working to a specific brief. You will be able to take on projects immediately and complete them in a timely manner.
