Publishing Director, Bookouture

Publishing Director, Bookouture
Bookouture is the fastest-growing digital publisher of commercial fiction – and part of Hachette UK. We have sold over 30 million books since we started 7 years ago, and 2019 was our best year yet.

We are looking for a forward-thinking, ambitious Publishing Director to lead one of our three fiction editorial teams. The role reports to the Managing Director and will involve managing a team of six people (two Associate Publishers, two Commissioning Editors and two Publishing Executives) as well as acquiring and publishing a select list of your own authors. You will join Bookouture’s leadership team, where you will help to shape the future of one of the most dynamic, progressive and fast-growing publishing companies in the world.

We want someone not only with great publishing talent, but who makes a habit of improving the way things are done, who embraces change and who enjoys applying data to creativity.

We’re keen to find someone who is driven by producing great work, thinking strategically – with a growth mindset – and generating new ideas and approaches that will improve our business.

You will need:

  • A successful track record in acquiring and publishing commercial fiction
  • Excellent awareness of the digital book market
  • The ability to guide and motivate an ambitious team
  • Knowledge of the US book market would be a significant advantage

Bookouture is committed to offering flexible working to our staff where possible and encourages applications from both part-time workers and those requiring flexible working arrangements. Given the managerial element of the Publishing Director role, the minimum commitment for this job is 4 days a week, three of which should be worked from our offices in London.

Hachette and Bookouture employ people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.
