We are seeking a highly motivated editorial director to develop a dynamic non-fiction list in the brand-new, yet to be named unit of the Hodder & Stoughton division.

Who we are and what we do

Hodder & Stoughton is a market-leading publisher with market-leading non-fiction from a wide range of authors including Deliciously Ella, Michael Caine and Sir Alex Ferguson as well as Fiction from bestselling and prize-winning authors including John Connolly, Mike Gayle, John Grisham, Stephen King, Andrew Miller, David Mitchell, David Nicholls, and Jodi Picoult.

We are looking to create a new business, alongside Hodder, to cater for the huge appetite for stories in the widest variety of formats – from pure digital eBooks to audiobooks, podcasts and new forms of storytelling as well as conventional print formats. We are building an exciting new team with digital and audio experience from inside and outside the book industry.

What you will be doing

We are looking for an editorial director to create a new list, acquiring new non-fiction print, eBooks and audiobooks projects. It is likely that the books you acquire will come from a mix of agents, direct submissions and ideas-based commissions.

What we are looking for

The successful applicant will have several years commissioning experience, a passion for creativity and a keen interest in the rapidly changing media landscape and the opportunities it presents to book publishers. You will have ideas and contacts that will enable you to build a list swiftly, and an understanding of global markets that will enable you to discover books that will reach the broadest of audiences. You are likely to have experience in acquiring and commissioning successful non-fiction and to be ready for a bigger challenge. For someone who can spot commercial projects and help writers bring their books to new audiences, this is a perfect opportunity.

Salary: £39,000-£50,000 depending on experience
