Who we are and what we do

Hachette UK are one of the UK’s leading publishing groups, comprised of ten publishers and over 50 imprints, with a rich and diverse history.

Hachette UK aims to be the publisher and employer of choice for all people, and is a dynamic, fun place to work, where we are committed to Changing the Story.

As part of our investment into the growing audiobook market, we will shortly be opening our own in-house recording facility at our head office in Victoria Embankment.

We are recruiting three engineers to form an in-house production team who will report into the head of Audio and Print Services. We are looking for talented people who can hit the ground running and get stuck straight into recording, editing, mixing and mastering our audiobook content to the highest standard.

What you’ll be doing

You will be working on what will ultimately end up as a finished product that has been created completely in house.

From the initial recording session with the narrator, to the editing, quality control, mix and final master, you will be involved in the whole audiobook production process from start to finish.

Working closely with the publishing divisions, your expertise will help us create audiobooks to the highest standards as expected by our customers and provide a great audio experience for our listeners.

As part our future planning, we will be looking into other forms of audio content that could be created in the studios and encourage the team to have an ownership mentality in this respect and share any ideas they have that would benefit the studios and wider business as a whole.

We also plan to run audio workshops for publishing staff where we will be training colleagues in valuable audio skills.

Who we’re looking for

You should be fully proficient in Avid Protools software, digital audio editing, mixing and mastering and be used to working on Macs.

Exceptional recording skills are a must with an emphasis on voice recording and ideally you are experienced in audiobook recording or come from a broadcast background

You should have good working knowledge of high-end pro audio equipment from brands such as Neumann, Focusrite, RME, Genelec and Solid-State Logic.

Excellent written and verbal communication will be an important element of this role, as you will be marking up scripts, sessions and completing cue sheets as well as directing recording sessions and collaborating with our publishing colleagues.

Being comfortable directing narrators to get the best performances from them will be key to us creating great audiobooks. You should have a sharp eye and ear for detail and be able to work to the briefs and standards set by our internal or external customers. There are a number of openings for this role.
