Who we are and what we do
Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) is one of the largest children’s publishers in the UK, with an excellent track record in creating bestselling and award-winning books for children. The Group aims to cater for every child, with baby and pre-school books, picture books, gift, fiction, non-fiction, series fiction, books for the school and library market and licensed publishing. We are the publisher of author Enid Blyton, and the owner of Enid Blyton Entertainment.
We publish the biggest brands in young series fiction, including Rainbow Magic, Beast Quest and Horrid Henry, and we are expanding our range of in-house generated series.
What you’ll be doing
You will support two senior editors across our young fiction series and IP list (reporting to the Senior Commissioning Editor). We typically publish around 50 books per year, and we cater for all age groups from 5+ to YA, with a focus on 5 – 9 illustrated fiction. You will work on evergreen brands as well as new IP projects, managing titles from acquisition to production, including managing schedules, editing manuscripts, checking illustrations and layouts, writing copy and metadata entry. You will also contribute creative ideas, researching the market, making proposals and contributing to the editorial development of our own-IP projects.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a highly organised and efficient editor, who is confident managing multiple titles and tight deadlines. This is also a very creative role, and we’re looking for someone who’s in touch with the market, interested in trends and full of ideas. You should have at least two years’ experience as an assistant editor or junior editor and be ready for a more demanding and independent editorial role. Experience of series fiction and/or content-generation would be of benefit.
What we offer
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of our own-IP fiction list, as well as working on the most established names in series fiction. We are a small and focussed team, but we collaborate closely with the wider talented team of children’s editors in fiction, non-fiction and licensing. The role is based in our Central London office and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.
