Editorial Assistant: Ilex, Octopus

Who we are and what we do

Ilex, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, has achieved an international reputation as a publisher of high-quality illustrated titles. Dedicated to creativity in all its forms, the Ilex list covers a broad range of titles from practical art and photography to trend-lead gift books. A major partnership with the Tate is a key new initiative.

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for an enthusiastic and meticulous Editorial Assistant to support three commissioners.

Responsibilities will include general office administration, running our internal systems, processing contracts, dealing with author queries, compiling market research, writing sales copy for catalogues and title information sheets, and checking proofs. While the role sits within our commissioning team, you will work across the business with colleagues from editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, PR and beyond.

Who we’re looking for

A minimum of 6 months’ office experience is essential.  Some publishing experience would be an advantage, as would familiarity with Biblio.

To be successful you will be:

  • Motivated, enthusiastic and with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Highly organised with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Able to multitask and organise effectively
  • Confident with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • A competent administrator with knowledge of Microsoft Word, InDesign and Excel

What we offer

The role is based in our riverside London office on Victoria Embankment working as part of a friendly, enthusiastic team and working with colleagues from other departments within Octopus. The job offers a great way to learn about illustrated book publishing.

We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.

If you are shortlisted and need us to make any adjustments to help you attend for interview, please let us know.

NB: We are using a blind recruitment process for this role.  This means that managers will only see your skills and experience, educational history and answers to your application questions at the shortlist stage, with your personal information removed.  This is intended to ensure a fair and consistent review of all applications based on your skills and experience relevant to this role.
