Halil Inalcik

Halil Inalcik is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago. Born in Istanbul, he was a Professor of Ottoman History at the University of Ankara from 1952 until 1972. He then joined the University of Chicago where he taught until his retirement in 1986. He is currently Professor of Ottoman History at Bilknet University in Ankara.

Harris Irfan

Harris Irfan is Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking at European Islamic Investment Bank plc. He is also the founder of Islamic finance advisory firm Cordoba Capital, an EIIB group company. He is a front office investment banker with 20 years experience in London and the Middle East, including 11 years at Deutsche Bank where he co-founded the world leading Islamic finance team, and most recently at Barclays where he was global head of Islamic finance across the group. Harris has been an official spokesman on the subject of Islamic finance for the institutions he has represented, and regularly speaks with the BBC, Sky News, CNBC, Bloomberg, Reuters and the Financial Times. He has competed in motor racing and has 35 podium finishes and championship wins at national level in karting, touring cars and GTs. He is a former race school instructor at Yas Marina F1 Circuit and the Dubai Autodrome and was a freelance motorsports writer for the Middle East editions of CAR and evo magazines, as well as Crank & Piston. He is married with three children and lives in Surrey.

He has been writing epic fantasy novels for over a decade and is the author of classic series the View from the Mirror, the Well of Echoes, the Song of the Tears and the Tainted Realm. His latest novels, The Summon Stone and The Fatal Gate, are a return to the fan-favourite world of the View from the Mirror.
Mark Irving

Mark Irving has been an art and architecture writer for numerous newspapers, including The Times, the Financial Times, the Independent on Sunday, the Guardian, and Scotsman as well as magazines such as Domus, Blueprint, Prospect, Time, L'Espresso, New Statesman, and Knack Weekend. He wrote and presented FIVE's critically acclaimed three-part television series 'The Story of Art Deco', broadcast in 2003. Mark has contributed essays to numerous books and catalogues, and conceived and produced the "Flip" book for the Serpentine Gallery's Talks Marathon in 2006.
Neil Irwin

Neil Irwin is a senior economic correspondent at The New York Times. He was previously a columnist at The Washington Post, where he led coverage of the global financial crisis, recession, and response of the world's central banks. He has an MBA from Columbia University, where he was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economic and Business Journalism. He lives in Washington. This book was shortlisted for the 2013 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.
