Orbit is the science fiction and fantasy imprint of Little, Brown Book Group. A market leader in genre fiction, the imprint is home to a diverse range of bestselling and award-winning SFF authors, including James S. A. Corey, Jim Butcher, N. K Jemisin, Brent Weeks, Ann Leckie, M. R. Carey, Trudi Canavan, Anthony Ryan, Patricia Briggs and Kim Stanley Robinson.
In this temporary position (up to 12 months) you will engage with many aspects of the publishing process, offering administrative and editorial support to assist in the smooth running of the busy Orbit department whilst the Orbit Editorial Director is on maternity leave.
The job will include handling advance copies for agents and authors, managing and updating publishing systems, distributing materials and information, scheduling meetings, taking minutes, dealing with reprints, reading submissions, proofreading and devising creative content for Orbit’s online direct consumer marketing channels.
The role is office-based within Little, Brown’s editorial department at Carmelite House, in Blackfriars, London.
The ideal candidate should be highly organised, efficient, proactive and able to work as part of team, with excellent administrative and IT skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc). A strong interest in commercial publishing and impeccable spelling and grammar are essential, as well as a meticulous eye for detail, good communication skills and the ability to prioritise and work well under pressure.

Salary range: £23,000
