Galaxy British Book Awards wins for Hachette UK Authors06/04/2009
At the 20th Galaxy British Book Awards announced on Friday (3rd April), two group authors received Nibbies.
Michael Palin (Orion) was presented with the award for Outstanding Achievement, recognising his extraordinary and diverse body of work including Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole, Full Circle, Hemingway Adventure, Sahara, Himalaya and New Europe. In a tribute the awards’ presenters Richard and Judy described him as a ‘modern day Renaissance man – a successful actor, comedian, playwright, diarist, documentary maker, charity founder, explorer and, of course, author’.
Stephenie Meyer was recognised for the outstanding success of the Twilight series, winning the WHSmith Children's Book of the Year for the fourth title of the series Breaking Dawn (Atom). Reacting to winning the award, a thrilled Meyer said in a videoed acceptance speech that it was ‘amazing and phenomenal… I just cannot say thank you enough.’
In another great achievement, Elizabeth H. Winthrop’s December (Sceptre) was awarded third place in the Richard & Judy Best Read of the Year, just missing out on the prize which went to When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson.
